What You Can Expect:

Come along to a Bellydance class and you will be surprised that in no time at all you will be dancing, regardless of age, fitness level and previous dance experience.

You can Bellydance whether you are young, old , fit or unfit, heavy or thin!

Each lesson you will learn a new skill /technique of the Bellydance .

Then you will be shown how to combine movements into a fun, (faintly naughty) sequence of steps that then later, become dance routines all in a Safe, non-competitive, friendly and nurturing environment. The low impact dance steps are fluid and natural.

The physical benefits of the dance are many, it is an excellent means of improving your flex ability, reducing stress, keeping in shape and introducing a general feeling of health and well-being.

You will use all the muscles from head to toe, with little stress on the joints. You may find lower back pain and menstruation pain greatly reduced as your abdominal muscles   become stronger week by week.

All this………… while embarking on a discovery journey of appreciation of Eastern music and rhythms, history and cultures.

You will be able to buy the music you hear in class*, and receive class notes so you can practise at home.

You may find looking back later, that many of your friends, you met at belly dancing class!

*Available from Phoenix Rising Bellydancers.

What is required of you?  - To Be a Diva of course!

  • Fees are always paid either in advance or at the end of each class. It is best to hand your term payments or instalments payment to the teacher in an envelope with your name, and amount written on it. A receipt/ invoice will be issued if you require one.

What to Wear

What you wear to class can greatly enhance your dance experience - Please NO Jeans!
  • In the beginning leggings / fitted jazz pants and a crop top, singlet top or semi-fitted t-shirt (stretchy material is the best) with scarves on the hips is ideal.
  • Some students prefer skirts, but please make sure they are a safe length for belly dancing.  If you prefer a skirt either straight or circular "hippy skirts" are fine.
  • The simplest costume is 2 pieces of chiffon / rayon one worn at the front and one at the back with a coin belt and crop top.

You do not need to expose your belly, but if you are okay with that it is better.  Later you can invest in a hip scarf with fringe, beads or coins.  (Authentic scarves available from Phoenix Rising Bellydancers)

Belly Dance is learnt in bare feet.  Only for Belly Burlesque can tall high heels be worn!

Accessories make the belly dancer ... so lay it on Earrings, Jewellery, Bracelets, Turbans, Hair accessories, Flowers, Bindi's etc.

Ultimately I encourage you to wear something that makes you feel beautiful, sexy, exotic and glamorous!!!

To get the most out of your Belly Dancing embrace it.
